March April update

XR Lambeth update: pre-rebellion buzz

Hello dear rebels,

Pardon the pun, but the lovely weather got us springing back into action! We’ve hit the ground running with mobilisation and actions these past couple of weeks, and the coming ones promise to be as exciting with pre-rebellion buzz and prep.

In this newsletter:

1️⃣ Summary of in-person Rebellion prep meeting

2️⃣ Get trained up and find your space in the movement

3️⃣ A round up of what XR has been up to

📝 Pre-rebellion meeting summary

This Monday we met in person for a longer than usual meeting to reconnect, reenergise and of course rebel! We took the time to remind ourselves of why we rebel and our principles and values. Do make sure you are familiar with them, too, as they form the basis of our actions and interactions 💚

We then provided an overview of the roles and essential training for rebellion (read on for details below), how to Paint the Streets to promote the upcoming rebellion and how Lambeth will organise during that time.

We also heard about Project 3.5 to mobilise masses and how it was going in Lambeth (spoiler: it is going well).

Finally, we discussed how we can build more opportunities for us to socialise, build trust and connections before, during and after rebellion so everyone feels part of the amazing supportive family that we are.

🔉 On that note, please
save the date for our Rebel Crafting and Toolkit evening:

Get together and make placards; learn to block-print XR logos and symbols; skill up with mini training sessions; ask any questions and find your rebellion buddies; eat and socialise!

Thursday 7th April, 7-9pm, Cressingham Gardens Rotunda, SW2 2QG

P.S.: the best way to know more and get involved is to join our Telegram chat and broadcast. You can also email us if easier.

🔓 Train up and join up

2021 Rebellion

There is a place for everyone within XR. For every rebel taking nonviolent direct action, there are at least a handful more supporting them.

You can check out the list of roles available for rebellion (and after!) in our handy summary with links to join groups and find out about relevant support and training.

Our top 3️⃣ to get ready for rebellion:

NonViolent Direct Action training: this workshop will cover all the essentials about why and how we do civil disobedience, with lots of practical information for anyone involved in XR.

🐝 Lambeth busy bees: actions round up

Thursday last week, we held a rally in Windrush Square to tell Lambeth Council we are watching them and asking them to protect peple and planet, not profits by acting on air pollution, food waste, housing, transpoirt and workers’ rights. We heard from local campaigners from those areas and connected afterwards. You can read the full press release on Brixton Buzz.

On Sunday, we joined other XR groups in anticipation of World Water Day (22nd) yet again in front of the Shell building, to highlight yet again how their extractivism is polluting our waters and destroying the communities and ecosystems relying on it. XR Lambeth led the “oil slicker” and “oil driller” performances:

Yesterday, we followed up on our rally and gatecrashed the launch of Lambeth’s Climate Action Plan to demand that they follow with concreate, measurable urgent actions to protect its residents. We briefly interrupted the presentations by staging a die-in and speaking for a handful of minutes to make sure the message was heard. Read more in our press release.
